A Meet and Greet Opportunity: Dr. Jandhyala of University of Washington's Global Innovation Exchange Network and Carol Zachs of SFU International
We were delighted to welcome Carol Zachs and Dr. Jandhyala into our office today. It was particularly poignant to meet with the University of Washington, as it was there in 2016 that our founders Jordan and Lee had their first VR experience, and Jordan won her first VR hackathon!
It really was the very beginning of what we are doing today, so you can imagine how delighted we are to meet Dr. Vikram Jandhyala, and share our history with UW.
Researchers Sherry Law has been studying the benefits that VR can provide to patients in one Fredericton long-term care home:
"If the data indicates that VR can improve residents’ moods, the technology could be implemented in York Care Centre and other long-term care centres in Canada as a supplementary tool to alleviate mood or mental health concerns in the population.
The benefits of improving mood in long-term care residents are multi-faceted. An improved mood could boost participation in rehabilitation or medical intervention, improve cooperation between the resident and staff, decrease aggressive incidents, and potentially increase overall health by reducing stress. These advantages could be translated into financial benefits as well," said Law.
The research is being undertaken by the One CABHI project. You can read the complete article Can Virtual Reality Make Long-term Care Residents Happier? One CABHI Project Investigates
NOTE: This project is using the HTC Vive VR headset.
Delighted to welcome the Deputy Premier of the Yukon & Minister for Economic Development, Honorable Ranj Pillai, the Deputy Minister, Justin Ferbey and Veronique Herry-Saint-Onge, Senior Advisor to the minister. Wonderful to hear about their innovative plans to help support business growth in the region and... on a personal note, a timely reminder for us that we need to do another road trip to the Yukon.
We loved the Yukon. Whitehorse has lovely parks with fun things for the kids of all ages and we spent a wonderful day on the Whitehorse Waterfront Trolley and walking around town. We especially want to go back to the Sign Post forest at Watson Lake ..... and for those who haven't been there yet, maybe its time the Yukon hit your bucket list!
