While there is much "talk" of change, the numbers paint a very real picture of the courage of women entrepreneurs. Without adequate funding and support, many avenues of matching funds from government sources are closed, finance companies aren't risk takers so in most cases women are left wondering how to survive.
In the lead up to #IWD2019 we can celebrate our progress across domains plus recognize our sticking points. In business, we know that although we have more female board members and more women CEOs than ever before — women still only received 2% of all venture capital dollars in 2017.
As March 8th rolls around once more, we want to take a moment to reiterate the importance of the mission to promote equality and diversity in the workplace and beyond. A 2019 message to all women everywhere: Hold on, the glass ceiling has cracked, but we haven’t yet broken through.
To galvanize this change, we encourage everyone to get educated on the current societal implications of gender through a read of Harvard Business School’s research papers from its Gender Initiative. (An initiative that “supports research, education, and knowledge dissemination to accelerate the advancement of women leaders and promote gender equity in business and society.”)
Let’s help broaden the gender conversation and make change!
